  • We had our last supper with Peruvian friends while in Santiago. Then the overnight flight back home. We started our Grand Tour a year and a half ago when we left for Europe, then South America.

Now we return back home to our regular lives again. But maybe our lives won't be as regular anymore. This huge experience, the places we have seen, the new friends we have... Although we go back to the farm in our small town, we come back different people. I look forward to the next phase in our lives.

In Argentina they have both regular police and police that are a branch of the military, but in Chile, they don't mess around. Here it seems like they are all militarized with truck and riot gear.

These vehicles are not here because we are having a riot. These are here because it's a Monday morning and we are standing in line at the DMV. Not kidding.

Although malls have been dying for awhile in the USA, they are very much alive here in Chile. Infact, they seem to be a central part of culture here. They are always full, and if you want to buy anything or eat anything, no matter a big city or small, the mall is a good option. I regularly see full restaurants as well as singers and entertainment.

For example, I wanted to buy work boots down here, so I went to 3 farm stores in small towns. No luck, they said go to the mall. I went to the stylish CAT store to shop for leather work boots. ++Another difference down here.++ The pair I found, they didn't have a size 13. Not that individual store, no, the entire country of Chile didn't have it. It is super difficult to find clothes for anyone who is big.
  • We are wrapping up our South American road trip in Valparaiso, Chile. This city on the coast is a labyrinth of side streets on the sides of mountains. And on every street and every alley is art. It's pretty cool for wandering around.
